Ability and non-ability traits in chess skill

Chess is an appropriate model to study ability and non-ability traits as related with performance because it bears intellectual emotional demanding requirements. With a group of amateur chess players (n = 100), the current addressed two interrelated aims. First, we assessed whether three broad PEN personality factors (psychoticism, extraversion, neuroticism), emotion regulation (cognitive reappraisal expressive suppression) differentiated from general population. Second, compared association domain knowledge personality/emotion skill. The main findings indicated that scored lower in neuroticism higher suppression Moreover, greater extent skill than traits, even though extraversion explained additional variability Overall, suggest may be influential selection environment. Besides, corroborate stronger impact cognitive on found other domains.
